Dementia Capable Community

Empowerment through opportunities

Various meetings and educational opportunities throughout Door County
A Dementia Capable Community is a group that shows a high level of awareness and responsibility when it comes to dementia.  Door County’s Dementia Capable Communities value our aging community, particularly those coping with dementia, by enhancing daily opportunities to live with independence, purpose, increased access to support and social networks.   We do this through community interaction, business education, early detection, and sustainability efforts. We seek to empower grocers, banks, restaurants, apartment complexes, churches, and more with tools that support the needs of those coping with dementia.
Local volunteers and organizations have made Door County’s Dementia Capable efforts a reality, including:
  • Door County Medical Center
  • Door County YMCA
  • Aging and Disability Resource Center(ADRC) of Door County
  • Door County Senior & Community Center
  • Door County Parish Nurse Network
  • Northern Door Health & Wellness Ministry
  • Washington Island Community Health Program
  • United Methodist Church
  • Scandia Village Good Samaritan
  • Neighbor to Neighbor
  • Sunflower Cottage Adult Day Services
  • The Greater Green Bay Community
  • Foundation
