Just in time for National Children’s Dental Health Month, the Tooth Fairy is set to make an appearance at DCMC Dental Clinic’s annual Tooth Fairy Fundraiser.
DCMC Dental Clinic provides oral health care to children and adults from Door and Kewaunee Counties. The clinic is staffed with two dentists, as well as dental hygienists and dental assistants. Clinic costs are underwritten by DCMC, generous community contributions, and grant funding. The Tooth Fairy Fundraiser, organized by DCMC’s Missions and Values team, is one of the most important opportunities for the Dental Clinic to funds.
The event kicks off February 17-21 at DCMC’s Sturgeon Bay campus,11:30 am -1:00 pm, with volunteers and “tooth fairies” promoting the event during the lunch hour each day. Participants show support by purchasing a white, silver or gold “tooth”. The sale will stay open throughout the month and folks may donate at any Door County Medical Center clinic.
“The fun part of this event is the tooth fairies, who are typically our employees and their children who dress up in costume to collect money,” says Tanya Fischer, DCMC Dental Clinic Director. “It’s an engaging event that helps our dental clinic significantly.”
Founded in 1999, the Dental Clinic serves Medicaid participants and low-income individuals with no dental insurance. They provide a variety of services including restorations, root canals, extractions, oral health education, X-rays and preventative care (cleanings and fluoride varnish). DCMC partners with local organizations that refer patients, including Human Services and Door County Public Health.
The clinic also partners with the Wisconsin Oral Health Association in the Seal-A-Smile program. This program provides dental sealants in the schools, promoting dental health and preventing tooth decay in children. The clinic is proud to help provide dental care, a basic health need for all people, to our community.
