A Life-Changing Partnership for Our Community
Door County Medical Center (DCMC) has partnered with Prevea Health to supplement the sorts of high-quality specialty surgical and medical services that are rarely available in rural settings. This partnership means incredibly positive things for residents of Door County and is yet another example of how DCMC distinguishes itself from hospital systems in similarly sized communities throughout the country. The partnership between DCMC and Prevea is a testament to their commitment to encouraging health and wellness in our community.
The Lack of Specialty Care in Rural Communities
If we’ve learned anything since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s that time is always of the essence when it comes to the health and wellbeing of our community members. A lack of access to high-quality specialty healthcare services affects millions of Americans in rural communities every year. It is estimated that roughly 60 million people – virtually one in five Americans – call rural and frontier communities throughout the United States home. For many of these citizens, receiving high-quality specialty medical services requires long journeys to crowded urban areas for treatment. Additionally, since 2010, at least 136 rural hospitals have had to close their doors, and it is estimated that as many as 1 in 4 hospitals located in rural communities are in danger of permanently shutting down. It effectively goes without saying that for rural populations across the nation, conveniently reachable health services are a top-of-mind concern.
What Makes Door County Different
Fortunately, accessibility to a wide variety of high-quality specialty healthcare services need not be a concern for Door County residents. Thanks to their valuable partnership, the Prevea Specialty Clinic – located within the Door County Medical Center Clinic – is now offering our community members greater access to high-quality specialty services including Asthma & Allergy, Audiology, ENT, Endocrinology, Heart & Vascular Care, Ideal Weigh (weight management) Neurology, Rheumatology, Physiatry & Pain Management, Urology, & Vascular Surgery.
Below, you’ll find important information regarding each service and provider, making specialty medical services more accessible throughout the county.
