A Short Guide to Door County Medical Center’s Community Support Initiative

Door County Community HealthIf you’ve spent time in Door County, you have likely experienced an organization or event that’s supported by Door County Medical Center (DCMC), and for good reasons.

While DCMC is driven to provide expert care, close to home, with more than 175 physicians serving on the medical staff, it is through the collaboration with other local organizations that DCMC can assure that the health of the Door County community will be supported, as well as continue to be a quality place to live, work, and play.

“The vision of Door County Medical Center is to deliver compassionate and high-quality care that inspires a healthy community,” DCMC CEO Brian Stephens said. “Every day, we make intentional decisions to benefit our Door County patients and community members.”

Why DCMC Supports Community Benefits

“Community benefits are programs or activities that provide treatment or promote health and healing as a response to identified community needs and meet DCMC’s community benefit objectives,” the Director of Business Development, Kevin Grohskopf, said.

Events that bring people together and foster a sense of community are vital components of a healthy lifestyle, and indeed, there are studies that support this. It is for this reason that Door County Medical Center deploys its community benefit objectives to deliver the best outcomes in quality, service, finance, culture, and growth to the people of Door County.

“DCMC’s community benefit objectives are 1.) Improve access to health care services; 2.) Enhance the health of the community; 3.) Advance medical or health care knowledge; 4.) Relieve or reduce the burden of government or other community efforts,” Grohskopf continued.

The community benefit objectives are predicated on the belief that Door County community partnerships are necessary to build and sustain health. DCMC’s partnerships and programs focus on different populations targeted for health improvement including women and children, the elderly, the indigent, those with special needs, as well as people with cancer, or chronic disease.

What Categories of Community Benefits DCMC Supports

Door County TheaterDoor County Medical Center supports a wide range of events that can be divided into 3 categories:

  1. Arts
  2. Physical
  3. Community

Each event category can benefit the mental, physical, and social health and well-being of Door County residents and visitors in their own unique way. DCMC’s support highlights the intersection of high-quality healthcare and the events that take place throughout Door County every day.

“DCMC has a long tradition of building strong connections to community organizations and supporting events and activities,” Director of Business Development Grohskopf said.

Door County Medical Center’s continued support of partners like the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Sunshine Resources, and The Women's Fund, along with many others emphasize the priority DCMC puts on fostering powerful and beneficial connections with nearly all organizations throughout Door County.

If the lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic have taught us anything, it's that health and wellness are more than just a medical matter. DCMC’s community engagement efforts reflect this critically important point.
