David Spude, a devoted husband and father, was loved and respected by all who knew him. His employer, the Doerr family trusted and depended on him as "their right hand man" as they developed their motor plants throughout Wisconsin. Sadly, David died of cancer in June of 2004.
As a tribute to David, his wife Lois, the Doerr family and the Door County Medical Center Foundation established the David Spude Cancer Center Fund to perpetually benefit the Door County Cancer Center facility. This endowment fund will help to ensure that a full complement of cancer treatments will be available to all that need them and that these treatments are provided in the most comforting and peaceful environment possible.
Comfort Care & Support Every Step of the Way
In order to provide the greatest comfort and care, the David Spude Cancer Fund has provided televisions for patient rooms, new furniture in the waiting area, chemotherapy treatment chairs, laptop computers and iPads. Additionally, the fund has contributed to the purchase of new chemotherapy pumps, a colonoscopy system upgrade and a CT scanner.
$600,000 has been raised since 2005 and it continues to grow, alongside the need for quality cancer care close to home.
How the Endowment Works:
The David Spude Cancer Fund supports the Door County Cancer Center and the hundreds of patients who receive care at this state-of-the-art facility. Funds are consistently allocated to update the single occupancy chemotherapy treatment rooms with the latest equipment and furnishings. The fund ensures that a full range of cancer diagnostic and treatment equipment is available close to home in the most comforting and peaceful environment possible.
- 3.5% of the fund balance benefits cancer care at Door County Medical Center annually.
- Annual fundraisers help continue to build the fund.
We invite you to support the David Spude Cancer Center Fund and this very vital service in Door County.
