High School Observation Experience

This opportunity allows students to observe a department or an individual for several 1-4 hours with the intention of educating them on the roles and responsibilities of the position. The Emergency Department, Birthing Center and Surgical Services are excluded from actual observation however the leader of those areas will meet with you one on one to discuss the roles in those units and schooling needed for each role.

Co-Op (Partnership with Door County School Districts)

This experience is only requested by High School Teachers/Counselors

This experience allows students to meet with leaders from multiple departments at DCMC before choosing one to do an observation experience. The Co-op experience is for over a semester where students meet with different DCMC staff in various roles, this will be scheduled through the Education Coordinator.

These opportunities are coordinated with the teacher/counselor only and students must be High School Juniors and Seniors to participate.

Observation Experience for Students Enrolled in a College Program

This Opportunity allows post-secondary students who are considering majoring in a health care related field to observe a department or individual for 8 hours but not to exceed 39 hours. The intent of this is to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of the role/department. The Emergency Department, Birthing Center and Surgical Services are excluded, however if this is an area of interest the Education Coordinator can set up a one on one meeting with the leader to discuss the responsibilities and education related to the different roles in those units. Students must be enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution to participate.

Clinical Student Program Requests

Door County Medical Center is dedicated to offering a valuable clinical experience while maintaining safe and excellent patient care. We offer undergraduate Nursing, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Rehabilitation, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Assistant, Surgical Technician, Pharmacy, and others upon request and approval.

Undergraduate Program

Please complete the following:

  1. Instructor:
    1. Complete the official request through the Greater Green Bay Healthcare Alliance
      1. Instructions (PDF)
      2. Send completed request spreadsheet and affiliation form below
  2. All students must be up to date with the following and school is required to produce if audited
    1. Current immunizations/immunity documentation: 
      1. Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR): 2 does of MMR – OR – positive lab titers showing immunity for measles, mumps and rubella
      2. Tuberculosis (TB): Negative TST test within the last 12 months
      3. Hepatitis B: completed 3 shot series, or positive antibody titer
      4. Influenza: Updated for current flu season (Oct 1 – March 31)
  3. Once clinical request is approved students will be provided:
    1. DCMC Orientation Handbook (PDF)
    2. Confidentiality form (PDF)
    3. Assigned Education modules in our Learning Management System

Medical Students

If you have an interest in completing a graduate program clinical rotation at Door County Medical Center, please complete the following:

  1. Instructor:
    1. Confirm contract/affiliation agreement is in place
  2. All students must provide proof of the following:
    1. Current immunizations/immunity documentation:
      1. Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR): 2 does of MMR – OR – positive lab titers showing immunity for measles, mumps and rubella
      2. Tuberculosis (TB): Negative TST test within the last 12 months
      3. Hepatitis B: completed 3 shot series, or positive antibody titer
      4. Influenza: Updated for current flu season (Oct 1 – March 31)
    2. Malpractice or coverage letter for the school
    3. Current Copy of BLS/ACLS certification
  3. Students need to complete all forms:

Externship Opportunities

DCMC offers temporary summer Extern positions in a variety of areas to students who are enrolled in an accredited college program and meet the minimum course term as outlined by DCMC. If you are interested in this summer program and qualify for one of these positions please contact us.

Rehab Student Volunteer Opportunities

DCMC offers temporary unpaid volunteer positions in the therapy department to students who are enrolled in an accredited college program in need of 40 or more volunteer hours. If you are interested in this volunteer program and qualify for one of these positions please contact us.
