DCMC’s SPARC Program: Eliminating Barriers to an Incredible Healthcare Career

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic began at the tail end of 2019, the US healthcare system was already facing a serious problem—a critical shortage of nursing staff. In order to tackle this issue and eliminate barriers head on, Door County Medical Center has created SPARC—an on-the-job healthcare training program designed to assist future CNAs, CMAs, LPNs and RNs.

Announcing the “Living Our Values” 2022 Award Recipients

Every year, the Mission & Values Team recognizes employees who exemplify DCMC's Catholic values with the "Living Our Values" award. Employees from each department submit nominations for fellow employees that they feel demonstrate one of the four core values. From those nominees, four are selected for the "Living Our Values" award based on each individual’s contributions that exemplify the core features of that value.

Recently, the Door County Medical Center (DCMC) Mission and Values Team along with local churches worked together to help the Afghanistan Refugees through the Afghan Refugee Assistance project known as Operation Wisconsin Joy.

Mary Lopas

Mary Lopas is a proud Door County native. "When I was young, I couldn't wait to get out of here," she remembers, adding, "So I went to school at the UW, but then quickly discovered that I missed home - Door County is a beautiful place. When I returned, I got married, raised our family, and began working in my field."

Jody Boes

Jody Boes was always drawn toward healthcare. As a child growing up in Door County, she constantly carried around the doctor/nurse kit, and she looks back at her early experiences taking care of her grandmother, and losing relatives at an early age, and feels that being a nurse—becoming a nurse—is a calling that continually led her to ask, "How can I make a difference in the lives of others?"
