DCMC Dental Clinic to host FREE Oral Cancer Screening

On Wednesday, April 19th, the Door County Medical Center Dental Clinic will host a free Oral Cancer Screening from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. This event is free to the public for all ages (minors will need to have their legal guardian present) and no appointment is necessary!

Colonoscopy at Door County Medical Center: Preventing Colorectal Cancer is Easier than You Think

There are a number of reasons—ranging from embarrassment, to discomfort, to fear of results, or even the cost—that prevent people from getting a colonoscopy, but there is one big reason in favor of going through the procedure: a colonoscopy is the best way to detect colorectal cancer in its early stages or prevent it altogether.

The Challenges of Helping Those with Behavioral Health Issues

“Access to behavioral services in our community is a significant issue,” Door County Medical Center’s Behavioral Health Coordinator, Barb Johnson-Giese, said. An unfortunate reality for medical professionals in the Door County community and beyond is that physicians are increasingly pressured to diagnose and treat mental and behavioral health problems that they are often not adequately trained to diagnose or treat.

Increasing the Distribution of Defibrillators in Door County

If you have ever had or known someone who has had a heart-attack, you know timing and resources are everything. According to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Fondation, some 350,000 cardiac arrest (OHCA) cases occur each year outside of a hospital, and between 70 and 90 percent of people who experience OHCA die before reaching a hospital.

Resources Available to Address Mental Health Concerns Among Older Adults

In 2021, eight people in Door County died by suicide. Six of these (75%) were age 60 or older. In recognition of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, Door County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) and Senior Life Solutions at Door County Medical Center (DCMC) are joining together to call attention to this critical issue for seniors in our community.
